Technical Committees of the ISCC Association

Technical Committees are involved in the organization of the ISCC Association and serve the constructive dialogue on the implementation of sustainability regulations. Practical experiences will be discussed and - if possible - mouth in system improvements in ISCC and communicate as needed with the BLE and other relevant institutions.
ISCC Association members, certification bodies and companies who use the system may participate in the events.

The following Techical Committees have been installed:

ISCC Technical Committee No. 1: Implementation of the German sustainability ordinances in the European context

Chair:
Petra Sprick (OVID - Verband der ölsaatenverarbeitenden Industrie in Deutschland e.V.) and
Elmar Baumann (Verband der Deutschen Biokraftstoffindustrie)

The last meeting of the technical committee took place on March 27, 2012 in Cologne.

ISCC Technical Committee No 2: Experiences with the ISCC system in Latin America

Ethanol, soy and biodiesel producers are welcome to exchange their experiences with ISCC certification on the ground. The participants will also get information about the current developments in Europe, the status quo concerning the recognition of ISCC by the European Union and the further developments within ISCC. The meetings aim at companies already using or planning to use ISCC, certification bodies and associations. The meeting is free of charge, but due to the limited number of participants, we would like to ask for registration.

3rd Meeting of the ISCC Technical Committee Latin America:
November 9, 2011, 14.00 - 18.00 h, Sao Paulo

On November 9, 2011, the third meeting of the ISCC Technical Committee No. 2: Experiences with the ISCC System in Latin America was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 2 PM to 6 PM. The Chairman of the Committee, Marcio Nappo from ADM do Brasil, welcomed around 20 persons.

Marcio presented the experience gained with ISCC implementation in Latin America. Furthermore, three certification bodies presented their experience with ISCC certification. The insights provided have been appreciated by the participants. Critical issues as the Brazilian Forest Code, the time period of 40 days for corrective measures after the first audit, HCVA definitions/maps, audit costs, harmonization of different certification systems and pasture land conversion to agriculture area were discussed. The participants welcomed that the main ISCC documentation and main parts of the website have now been translated into Portuguese, as requested in the last Technical Committee meeting.

2nd Meeting of the ISCC Technical Committee Latin America:
May 5, 2011, 10.00 - 15.00 h, Sao Paulo

On May 5, 2011, the second meeting of the Technical Committee Latin America of ISCC took place in Sao Paulo. 35 participants registered for the event and were welcomed by the Chairman, Marcio Nappo of ADM do Brasil.
Norbert Schmitz provided an update about the EC recognition process and most recent developments of the ISCC scheme. It was well received by the attendees that ISCC is used by more than 500 companies in 33 countries. Experience with ISCC implementation in Latin America has been presented by Marcio, supplemented by Vanda Nunes from SGS and João Pedro Pacheco from Control Union.
Critical issues for certification such as the definition of highly biodiverse grassland, storage and usage of agrochemicals, and uncertainties regarding the forest code have been identified and being addressed in the discussion. A valuable insight on the forest code matter was provided by Joao Campari, Director of The Nature Conservancy. Possible solutions for the critical matters have been discussed and will be elaborated on more in detail in the near future. Also, it has been agreed to make more ISCC documents available in Portuguese, and to offer also a portuguese version of the ISCC webpage.

The next meeting of the Technical Committee is scheduled for September 2011.


ISCC Technical Committee No. 3: „Wood“

The second meeting of the technical committee „Wood“ took place on May 24th, 2011 in Berlin. Among the participants were operators of large short-rotation plantations, CB’s, NGO’s, Associations, and Research Organizations. Main topics circled around the results of the three first pilot audits of short-rotation plantations. The participants elaborated change requests and solutions for ISCC with respect to sustainability requirements, backtracking, and GHG calculation.
The third meeting of the technical committee „Wood“ took place on September 2nd, 2011 in Berlin.

The fourth meeting is scheduled for January 25, 2012, in Berlin.
