Certification and Licensing

As a brand owner, you have the option to either become ISCC-certified or licensed or both. Your choice will depend on your position within the supply chain, how much you alter already ISCC-certified material, and your objectives regarding the use of ISCC logos and claims.

What is the Right Fit?

Certification

If your company is part of the supply chain or a brand owner at the end of the supply chain that significantly alters certified material, you must be ISCC-certified. We will guide you through the step-by-step process of obtaining your ISCC certification.

Licensing

If you are a brand owner at the end of the supply chain, receiving ISCC-certified material to sell in the final market without significantly altering it, you may be eligible for an ISCC licence. To check your company’s eligibility in more detail, we include a licence decision tree in the first step of our licensing process. Afterwards, we will guide you through the step-by-step process to obtain your ISCC licence!

Combination of Certification and Licensing

Certified brand owners are highly encouraged to also receive an ISCC licence, if eligible. This will provide your company with the following benefits:

  • Use of the ISCC BrandPortal – Benefit from using the ISCC BrandPortal as a centralised platform for the efficient management of your ISCC-certified finished goods.
  • Greater Visibility and Transparency – Your brand’s finished goods will be published in the ISCC licence database, making it easier for consumers, NGOs, and other stakeholders to recognise and verify your certified products. This increased transparency strengthens trust and credibility.
  • Clear Legal Framework – The licence agreement provides defined requirements for logo and claim usage, eliminating uncertainties about what is permitted.
  • Expanded Coverage – The licence will cover not only the goods your certified entity produces but also those you source, ensuring clear coverage for all of your certified finished goods.
  • Efficient Product Management – The licence allows for clearer identification of which of your finished goods are ISCC-certified, simplifying tracking and compliance.
