Is it mandatory to add emissions for compression on a PoS when the final use of the fuel is not known? (29.01.2024)
If the final use of the biogas/biomethane is not known, the emissions for compression must be added to the calculation. This is also the case if the biomethane is injected into a gas grid, pipeline etc. In case the fuel is eventually used in a sector other than transportation, i.e., the heating/cooling or electricity sector, it would be the responsibility of the producer of that commodity to cancel the original PoS including the compression emissions. The producer must also issue a new PoS recalculating the GHG emissions following the appropriate GHG calculation method and minimum savings target for that market. Please see the latest ISCC EU Document 205 “Greenhouse Gas Emissions” for further information.
