ISCC Credit Transfer System

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a key lever for cutting down on emissions in air travel, and our certification schemes already cover robust sustainability, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, and full traceability of SAF from feedstock production through to airport delivery.

The ISCC Credit Transfer System (CTS) takes this one step further. It enables verified sustainability claims to be reliably tracked and transferred after SAF uptake – addressing a long-standing challenge in the aviation value chain. Integrated with the ISCC Registry, our secure online database, the CTS allows claims to move transparently through the downstream chain. As a result, SAF suppliers, aircraft operators, logistics providers, and end customers can confidently track, transfer, and report their emissions reductions for credible climate disclosures.

SAF Certification with ISCC

Why does SAF matter on the pathway to net-zero?

Benefits of the ISCC Credit Transfer System

For SAF Suppliers

For Aircraft Operators

For Logistics Providers

Practical and straightforward way of recording emissions reductions from SAF use.

Allocation of SAF benefits to corporate end customers possible.

For Aviation End Customers

Sourcing of emissions reductions based on SAF that meets strict sustainability criteria.

Credible and transparent claims for voluntary climate disclosures.

How the Credit Transfer System Works

Register Credits in the ISCC Registry

The SAF supplier registers SAF credits in the ISCC Registry, corresponding to the quantity of SAF delivered. Each metric ton of SAF creates both a Scope 1 and Scope 3 credit, in line with GHG accounting principles defined by the GHG Protocol.

Transfer Credits in the ISCC Registry

The SAF supplier transfers SAF credits in the ISCC Registry to organisations in its downstream value chain, including aircraft operators, logistics providers, and end customers.

Retire Credits in the ISCC Registry

Organisations retire credits available in their account. The ISCC Registry automatically issues a retirement declaration.

Claim SAF Credits

The retirement declaration provides the organisation with information to claim the sustainability characteristics associated with the retired credits in its voluntary climate disclosures.

Get Started in Three Simple Steps

The CTS is for you if you are a SAF supplier, an aircraft operator, a logistics provider, or an end customer seeking to credibly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from air travel or transport. SAF suppliers also need a valid certification, such as ISCC PLUS, ISCC CORSIA, or ISCC EU, to join the system.

Learn How the System Works

Review the System Document “ISCC Credit Transfer System” to dive deep into the principles, requirements, and capabilities of the system. You can find the document under further information below.

Sign up for the ISCC Registry

Designate a main contact person who will be responsible for all transactions and communications. Once you sign up for the ISCC Registry, your request will be reviewed. Please note: SAF suppliers are required to complete an additional ISCC trader certification.

Get Onboarded and Approved

Before your registration is approved, an ISCC expert will schedule a mandatory 30-minute onboarding call with you. In this session, you will learn about the different user roles, the actions each can perform (e.g., transferring or claiming credits), and discuss applicable audit procedures. This onboarding ensures you are fully prepared to use the system effectively and provides an opportunity to ask any final questions.

Further Information

The ISCC Credit Transfer System provides additional credibility and transparency and can play a crucial role in enabling trust and confidence in SAF as an easy and credible solution to reduce emissions.

Susanne Bouma, Head of Customer Experience & Offering, Neste

With the globally increasing interest for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and in-sector decarbonization, the ISCC credit transfer system enables a reliable chain of custody system beyond the boundaries of conventional mass balancing and the physical delivery of SAF.

Wanyu Sheng-Kara, Senior Expert Product & Service Portfolio, OMV

The ISCC registry’s end-to-end tracking ensures that emission reductions are transferred reliably, transparently, and safely along the value chain. Its rigorous methodology is essential for reaching Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) goals within the aviation sector and for airline customers.
