ISCC officially supports EUROPARC Germany
ISCC is pleased to announce its official support of EUROPARC Germany in its project to increase biodiversity within the UNESCO biosphere reserve Thuringia Forest in Eastern Germany. EUROPARC Germany is an active member of the ISCC association and a charitable organisation which ensures that Germany’s National Parks, Biosphere Reserves and Nature Parks are preserved and treasured.
Forests play an important role in the fight against climate change. But the German forest is suffering: in 2018 and 2019 the heat, prolonged drought and beetle plagues have destroyed large areas, even old trees were not spared from damage. By converting the spruce monoculture into a mixed forest with high biodiversity, the EUROPARC project aims to strengthening the climate resilience of the biosphere reserve. In addition, the course of the mountain stream which flows along the forest will be adapted so that native animals like the fire salamander, brook lamprey and brown trout will find a new home. The project will not only have positive effects on the climate and biodiversity, but also helps to preserve a significant environmental heritage in Europe.
