10 June 2025
We are thrilled to announce another significant milestone achievement for ISCC! Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), one of the Government of Canada departments responsible for coordinating environmental policies and programs, has approved ISCC as a certification scheme in line with its sustainability criteria under its Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR).
The Latest Stamp of Approval for ISCC
Following a comprehensive assessment process, ECCC has confirmed that ISCC meets the requirements for certification under section 62 of Canada’s CFR. This recognition is based on the ISCC PLUS certification requirements, which will serve as the baseline for the new ISCC Canada CFR certification scheme.
As agreed upon on 26 February 2025, harvesters or first-gathering points supplying regulated entities or foreign suppliers with agricultural or forest-based feedstock through their supply chains for the purpose of producing low-carbon-intensity fuels (LCIF) under the CFR will soon be able to apply for certification under ISCC Canada CFR. This certification will allow entities along the LCIF supply chains to credibly and transparently demonstrate compliance with the Land Use and Biodiversity criteria outlined in the CFR.
“ECCC is pleased to add ISCC Canada CFR as an approved certification scheme under the Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) for certifying eligible feedstocks. The use of sustainable feedstocks is an important part of the CFR. Third-party certification is a useful tool for fuel producers to demonstrate compliance with CFR’s land use and biodiversity criteria.”

Understanding ISCC PLUS
With more than 5,500 active certificates as of February 2025, ISCC PLUS is a globally recognised voluntary certification scheme. ISCC PLUS validates the sustainability characteristics and responsible sourcing of alternative feedstocks, enabling businesses and brand owners worldwide to demonstrate compliance with sustainability standards.
“We welcome this approval by ECCC. This underscores the importance of credible sustainability certification in advancing Canada’s climate goals. We look forward to working closely with ECCC and its industry stakeholders to support the transition to a more sustainable, low-carbon economy.”
As we continue to expand our outreach and scope globally, the ISCC Canada CFR certification scheme will help businesses operating in (or with) Canada meet the sustainability requirements under the CFR. This will contribute to Canada´s carbon intensity reduction targets for fuel producers and importers and expand the use of low-carbon fuels.

A Positive Outlook for Global Sustainability Standards
As a third-party certification scheme dedicated to building trust and increasing supply chain transparency, ISCC is encouraged by the continued support and recognition from ECCC and other (inter)governmental organisations.
Looking ahead, ISCC and its stakeholders remain committed to supporting the circular economy, advancing the bioeconomy and promoting decarbonised supply chains.
