3 July 2025
We are excited to announce a significant step forward for ISCC PLUS. As of 1 July 2025, the ISCC PLUS certification scheme will operate with its standalone System Documents, independent of ISCC EU. This change comes with an 18-month transition period, giving all stakeholders sufficient time to adjust.
What’s Changing – and Why
Initially, the ISCC PLUS scheme was developed based on the existing ISCC EU scheme and its established guidelines. However, due to the independent and successful growth of ISCC PLUS in recent years, stakeholders have requested a clear set of ISCC PLUS documents that do not cross-reference ISCC EU documents. Additionally, a thorough evaluation of the global sustainability landscape and the distinct needs of our stakeholders across various sectors and geographies further drove this move towards independence.
The system requirements within ISCC PLUS largely remain unchanged. The main update involved removing references to ISCC EU, allowing the ISCC PLUS framework to stand independently while keeping existing requirements. Specific Traceability and Chain of Custody requirements have been refined to improve clarity and better align with practical implementation.
Get Involved: Public Consultation Now Open
In line with our commitment to stakeholder engagement and transparency, we have launched a public consultation period for the new ISCC PLUS System Documents, which will run until 1 October 2025. Share your feedback with us!
Impact on Your Certification
There will be no impact on the validity of existing ISCC PLUS certifications, planned audits, or ongoing operations. ISCC PLUS will continue to recognise materials certified under ISCC EU, and combined audits remain possible. Both ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS will continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and sustainability assurance.
