Our new ISCC Carbon Footprint Certification (ISCC CFC) System Document v1.4 is now open for public consultation until 26 December 2025. Help us shape the future of transparent, auditable Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs)! Your feedback will ensure our updated approach meets real-world decarbonisation needs while remaining credible, verifiable, and aligned with leading standards!

What’s New in ISCC CFC v1.4

Part I: Strengthened Certification and Governance

Part I of the updated ISCC CFC System Document adds structural and procedural enhancements to strengthen certification integrity. It presents a new chapter on governance and Certification Body requirements. It also provides expanded guidance on the certification process – covering eligibility checks and conditions for off-site vs. on-site audits – and, for the first time, a dedicated chapter on claims.

Part II: Expanded Mitigation Technologies – A Major Leap Forward

This is where it gets most interesting, as one of the key updates in v1.4 is the inclusion of new mitigation measures and guidelines on how to include them in the PCF calculation.

  • ISCC PLUS and CFC Combination for Biogenic Material: This update enables combined certification of biogenic material under ISCC PLUS and ISCC CFC, supporting both the traceability and carbon footprint verification of a product. By doing so, the new version contains guidance for combining mass balance attribution (MBA) with PCF accounting.
  • Accounting for Renewable Energy Use: Clear requirements have been added for demonstrating renewable energy use for utilities and production processes. These include rules for selecting appropriate emission factors (EFs) and criteria for proof of renewable electricity use, such as PPAs or energy attribute certificates.

Why This Matters

As regulatory pressure and market demand for climate transparency increase, credible, standardised PCF data are becoming increasingly essential. The updates in v1.4 continue our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting technical innovation, and elevating product carbon footprinting to certified, comparable data.
