February 17, 2023
On 15 February we held our 13th ISCC Global Sustainability Conference. While nearly 200 participants joined us in Brussels, we additionally counted more than 900 people following the conference virtually throughout the day. Altogether, participants from 86 countries took part. After two years of hosting our flagship event online, we were really looking forward to the hybrid version. We are very happy that we could see familiar faces again, meet new people, welcome our new ISCC Association members in person and simply experience the atmosphere of a get-together.
The conference started with an overview of the regulatory framework, new developments in aviation and maritime transport and proposals to incentivize negative emissions. We would like to thank the European Commission, as well as our international speakers for their contribution and the insights they provided! After a lively lunch break with lots of individual discussions the parallel sessions dedicated to each of our three flagship schemes, ISCC EU, PLUS and CORSIA plus sustainable marine fuels started and delivered details on the developments in the specific areas. One particularly noteworthy development is the Delegated Acts on Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) adopted by the European Commission on the Monday prior to our conference. As ISCC has already certified Power to X projects under ISCC PLUS, and has participated in successful pilot audits for green hydrogen and derivatives organized by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) under ISCC EU, we will apply our knowledge and experience gained for RFNBO certification under the REDII framework. As the topic is also of utmost importance for the decarbonization of the aviation and shipping sector, RFNBO certification will be present in all our focus areas.
To get an insight into the wide range of topics presented and discussed at this year’s ISCC Global Sustainability Conference, we have made the presentations available on our website. A huge thank you to all the representatives from government agencies, regulators, ISCC association members, ISCC system users, certification bodies, NGOs, researchers, and the sustainability community who attended our event! We are already looking forward to our conference a year from now and all the upcoming developments that will be discussed then.
