Yesterday’s Regional Stakeholder Meeting in Jakarta was an afternoon loaded with many great takeaways! 100 passionate stakeholders joined us onsite, and another 140 attended the meeting online to explore the latest developments in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and the overall state of sustainability certification in the region.
The meeting kicked off with insightful introductions by Committee Co-Chairs Dr Haskarlianus Pasang (Head of Operations Sustainability at GAR/PT SMART Tbk) and Andreas Feige (Managing Director of ISCC). Together, they framed the gathering as a pivotal platform to further advance certification, foster regional collaboration, and address challenges.

ISCC Update and Outlook: Expanding Certification in Southeast Asia
Reena Macagga (Sustainability Manager at ISCC) began with a comprehensive update on ISCC’s impact. As of October 2025, we have issued over 14,600 valid certificates across 136 countries, underscoring our lead in sustainability certification spanning feedstocks and sectors. Further, Macagga highlighted the exponential growth in ISCC CORSIA certifications, which increased by 175% compared to October last year, reflecting a major focus on SAF. Indonesia and Malaysia, which account for nearly two-thirds of these, indicate the region’s pivotal role in advancing aviation decarbonisation.
Market Potential for SAF in Southeast Asia
Tom Berg (Director of Policy and Sustainability EU at SkyNRG) then presented us with a forecast for the global SAF market. According to Berg, global demand for SAF will soar from 4 million tonnes today to an astonishing 195 million tonnes by 2050, with most of this demand originating from Asia. However, Berg cautioned that the current production capacity is insufficient to meet future demands, as a significant supply gap could already emerge by 2035. He called for stronger policy frameworks, increased investment, and enhanced infrastructure to diversify feedstocks and scale synthetic SAF production.
SAF Development: Malaysia and Indonesia Leading the Way
Nik Farhan (Manager of Business Development at NAICO Malaysia) followed with an update on Malaysia’s evolving SAF regulatory landscape. He discussed efforts to align national standards with international sustainability frameworks, as well as the critical role of certification in enabling market uptake. Meanwhile, Dr Agung Wicaksono (Director of Transformation and Business Sustainability at PT Pertamina, Indonesia) showcased Indonesia’s ambitious “Asta Cita” vision for SAF, which builds on a dual strategy to optimise traditional oil operations while expanding low-carbon alternatives. This includ a robust “Used Cooking Oil (UCO)-to-SAF” circular model, certified under ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU.

ISCC’s Expanding Role in Aviation and Maritime Fuels Certification
After a quick refreshment break, Adam Kirby (Senior Sustainability Manager and Team Lead for Aviation & Maritime at ISCC) introduced the upcoming International Maritime Organization (IMO) scheme for Alternative Marine Fuels (AMF), designed to ensure compliance with regulations like the EU Renewable Energy Directive and ICAO CORSIA. Further, Kirby presented the ISCC Proof of Compliance (PoC) framework and the dual conformance model, which simplifies simultaneous compliance with multiple regulatory schemes. The ISCC Book & Claim system was noted as an essential enabler for voluntary SAF markets, allowing credible emission claims without physical fuel transfer.
Supply Chain Integrity: Fraud Resilience and Risk Mitigation
Andreas Feige (Managing Director of ISCC) outlined ISCC’s robust strategy for fraud resilience in waste-based biofuel supply chains. Continuous audits, performance monitoring, and sophisticated tools like transaction databases and the ISCC HUB aim to ensure the integrity of supply chains from source to product. The ISCC Risk Management Tool and mobile app enable targeted risk assessments and daily data collection. An ISCC working group is actively refining feedstock definitions – especially for UCO – improving audit protocols and advancing chemical analytics.
Preparing for the Union Database (UDB)
In the late afternoon, Kristina Nenov (Team Lead for IT Services at ISCC) showcased the Union Database (UDB) as a critical EU platform to enhance transparency and traceability of renewable fuels, with ISCC playing a pivotal role in its successful adoption. From the start, ISCC has been a key partner in UDB implementation, organising training, onboarding certificates, and providing continuous support to uphold simplified data management, seamless certificate and transaction handling, and improved supply chain visibility.
Closing Reflections and Election of New Co-Chairs
The meeting concluded with closing remarks from Andreas Feige and Dr Haskarlianus Pasang, reaffirming ISCC’s commitment to transparency, innovation, and stakeholder collaboration. Finally, the election of the open Co-Chair position for the next term was held.
Congratulations to Benjamin Chou on his new role as Co-Chair for the Regional Committee Southeast Asia!

Thank you to all participants for your active attendance! We look forward to our next meeting in the region!
