Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

We herewith inform you about updates and clarifications of the ISCC System. Please share this information with all relevant members of staff.

1. New ISCC Technical Committee “Waste, Residues and Advanced Low Carbon Fuels”

The Board of the ISCC Association is pleased to announce the establishment of a new ISCC Technical Committee (TC) with the title “Waste, Residues and Advanced Low Carbon Fuels”.

The objectives of this TC will be:

  • Discussion of certification of waste and residue based supply chains
  • Elaborate on advanced low carbon fuels and certification requirements
  • Ensure integrity of supply chains and the certification of feedstocks with a potentially higher risk

As the significance of waste and residues based biofuels and advanced biofuels continuously increases on a global basis, innovative certification approaches and reliable global supply chains become more important.

The new TC will provide an important platform for stakeholders to engage in a dialogue to tackle those challenges and opportunities.

The TC will have a particular focus on Asia, Europe and North America. The first meeting is expected to take place in Shanghai in June 2018. Further information will be provided soon.

2. NUTS2-Equivalent GHG Values for Australia and Canada

We herewith inform you that the European Commission (EC) has recognised third country reports for greenhouse gas emissions in kg CO2eq/dry-ton from the cultivation of certain crops (“NUTS2-equivalent values”) submitted by Australia and Canada. The decisions of recognition by the EC have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 16 December 2017 (Australia) and 19 December 2017 (Canada). Both decisions entered into force on the twentieth day following that of their publication in the Journal. This means the respective NUTS2-equivalent GHG values can be applied from 05 January 2018 (Australia) and from 08 January 2018 (Canada).

3. Update: ISCC List of Materials

ISCC has updated the ISCC list of materials. Technical corn oil was added to table 1 (raw materials).

The ISCC list of materials is available in the client section of the ISCC website.

4. Nabisy Information Letter

The German Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung – BLE) has published an information letter concerning changes in Nabisy. Please find the information letter here. For all system users that have access to the German Nabisy database it is highly recommended to take this information letter into account.

As pointed out in the letter the list of Nabisy codes and the application form for the invalidation of a Nabisy Proof of Sustainability have been adjusted. The new list of Nabisy codes is available in the client section of the ISCC website. The adjusted application form for invalidation will be published by the BLE shortly and will also be made available on the ISCC website.

5. ISCC Trainings – Dates

ISCC Greenhouse Gas Training (1.5 days)

ISCC EU and PLUS Basic Trainings (3 days)

Important note for certification bodies and auditors: The participation in the ISCC EU and PLUS Basic Training is a mandatory requirement for all auditors before they can conduct audits under ISCC.

Auditors who have not yet participated in an ISCC Basic Training after July 2016 are required to re-attend an ISCC Basic Training until the end of January 2018 if they want to conduct ISCC Audits in 2018 and thereafter.

If a certification body is conducting audits and certifications that include the verification of actual greenhouse gas calculations, the certification body must ensure that at least one GHG expert has participated in an ISCC Greenhouse Gas Training.
