ISCC Auditors and cooperating Certification Bodies.

1. ISCC Webinar – System Updates Summary Q1 2025

Date: 9 April 2025, 02:00 – 03:00 pm CEST

We offer a regular webinar series to keep our System Users, ISCC Auditors and other stakeholders informed about all recent changes and developments. Participants will have the opportunity to ask specific questions about the presented system updates.

Please note that all ISCC System Users, ISCC Auditors and Cooperating Certification Bodies must read the system updates and implement new requirements promptly, as some changes are effective immediately or within a narrow timeframe.

ISCC EU

2.1 List of Material Eligible for ISCC EU Certification (“ISCC EU Material List”) and ISCC HUB Update

The ISCC EU material list has been updated. The newly added and revised materials are marked in bold.

Additionally, the ISCC HUB has been updated to allow the specification for the following raw material entry:

  • Residue of FAME end distillation

To be recognised as a waste/residue according to the Dutch positive list, the esterified product in FAME production may require distillation to meet the EN14214 specification. The feedstock Residue of FAME end distillation is limited to residues of FAME production that derive from feedstocks qualifying for Annex IX part B that required end distillation.

As a result, the following feedstocks can be recognised as a waste/residue according to the Dutch positive list, and must be selected accordingly in the ISCC HUB:

  • Residue of FAME end distillation (UCO)
  • Residue of FAME end distillation (UCO entirely of vegetable origin)
  • Residue of FAME end distillation (Animal fats from rendering (category 1))
  • Residue of FAME end distillation (Animal fats from rendering (category 2))

Example:

If a Residue of FAME end distillation is produced from raw materials not listed in Annex IX Part B, the raw material (e.g. sunflower) must be selected in the drop-down menu and the residue of FAME end distillation is considered a co-product.

2.2 RFNBOs: Self-Declaration for Electricity Producers

A Guarantees of Origin system (GoOs), inter alia, ensures the existence of renewable electricity plants that are contracted to power the RFNBOs plants. In EU Member States where a GoOs is in place, the use of the ISCC EU RFNBOs Self-Declaration for Electricity Producers is voluntary. In such cases, RFNBO producers must be able to provide evidence of the GoOs cancellation. Additionally, further documents from a dedicated national registry of renewable electricity production assets can serve as supporting proof.

Please note that once the RFNBO implementation in the UDB begins and further guidance from the EC UDB Team becomes available, additional provisions for renewable electricity producers and RFNBO producers may be introduced.

Lastly, we emphasise that the Self-Declaration for CO2 and its requirements remain unchanged.

2.3 Clarification on Transport Emission Calculation etd

We hereby clarify that emissions of non-CO2 greenhouse gases, i.e. nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4), shall be included in transport emissions (etd) calculations. When available, the default values in the Annex IX of the IR 2022/996 may be used.

2.4 Changes in the Neutralisation Emissions of Nitrogen and Urea Fertilisers

In accordance with the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/196, the emission factor for the neutralisation of nitrogen fertilisers in the soil shall be 0.806 kg CO2/kg N, while the emission factor for the neutralisation of urea fertilisers is 0.783 kg CO2/kg N.

These values were already included in the ISCC System Document 205 “Greenhouse Gas Emissions” (v4.1), based on the earlier Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/996. However, the values were switched in the System Document – the emission factor for nitrogen fertilisers was listed under urea, and vice versa. This update corrects the order.

ISCC PLUS

3.1 ISCC PLUS Supplier Package for System Users Supplying to Brand Owners

We are pleased to introduce the ISCC Supplier Package, a customised information package specifically designed for companies supplying ISCC certified products or packaging materials to brand owners. This comprehensive package aims to enhance the understanding of the opportunities available to brand owners and provide detailed information to support effective communication with them.

The ISCC Supplier Package is available in the client section and can be used to facilitate discussions with brand owners and can be shared directly with them.

This is the first version of the ISCC Supplier Package, and we will continue to develop and enhance it. We welcome any feedback to better understand what companies need from ISCC to effectively communicate with brand owners. Please share any suggestions or comments at license(at)iscc-system.org. Your input will help us improve the package to better support your needs.

We will regularly update the materials to ensure that you have access to the most up-to-date information and will notify you via the system update whenever a new version of the ISCC Supplier Package is released.
