What is the EUDR?
On 29 June 2023, the Regulation on Deforestation-free products (EUDR) entered into force. The Regulation mandates that any operators or traders engaged in importing or exporting relevant commodities within the EU market must demonstrate that the products are not linked to deforestation or forest degradation. In addition, products need to be produced in accordance with the relevant legislation of the country of production as well as follow strict traceability requirements set by the Regulation.
What products are covered by the EUDR?
The EUDR applies to soy, oil palm, rubber, wood, coffee, cacao and cattle. Under ISCC certification, it is possible to cover oil palm, soy, rubber and wood.
What implications does the EUDR have for companies?
The EUDR prescribes due diligence obligations to companies intending to import or export the relevant materials and their products as listed in Annex 1 of the Regulation. The due diligence process consists of three main components: information gathering, risk assessment and risk mitigation.
The Regulation will come into force on 30 December 2024 for operators and large traders. With ISCC, you can already take the relevant steps to prepare your company for the EUDR – we would be happy to assist you.
How can ISCC support companies with the EUDR?
With over 10 years of experience in sustainable, traceable and deforestation-free supply chains, ISCC provides a robust offering to support system users in their EUDR obligations. Even though certification does not provide a green lane for compliance, it is listed in the Regulation as a supporting measure companies can use for their individual assessments. Through acquiring an ISCC certification, companies can already showcase going the extra mile, by fulfilling a variety of social, environmental, and economic criteria. ISCC can support your company in fulfilling the EUDR requirements by offering a 3-step solution:
1. Information collection and deforestation analysis
2. Risk assessment and risk mitigation
3. Digital traceability platform
I am interested in ISCC certification and the EUDR Add-On – what steps should I take?
We are working on a comprehensive solution to support EUDR compliance for companies that goes hand in hand with ISCC certification. If you are already a user of the ISCC System, then our EUDR Add-On is a recommended addition to your certification. You may combine it freely with either an ISCC EU or ISCC PLUS certification. The EUDR Add-on certification can be part of the next audit and is an easy and cost-effective method to contribute to EUDR compliance.
What are the advantages of using ISCC EUDR Add-on?
The ISCC EUDR Add-on includes third-party on-site audits to support traceability and assurance of deforestation and legal requirements. Furthermore, the tailor-made EUDR GRAS/ISCC tool provides deforestation check and risk assessment. Finally, the digital traceability platform provides transmission of relevant information along supply chain and consolidated reporting for DDS.
