Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

We herewith inform you about updates and clarifications in the ISCC System. Please share this information with all relevant members of staff.

1. New ISCC PLUS Self Declaration for CO2

With the release of ISCC PLUS System Document version 3.4.1 effective from 1 September 2023, CO2 becomes a certifiable raw material under specific conditions (for details, please refer to ISCC PLUS System Document v3.4.1, Chapter 5.4).
The new CO2 Point of Origins self-declaration is available in the client section. It can be used from 1 September 2023. For system users who prefer to use their own templates, it is essential to include the same information as provided in the self-declaration.

2. ISCC PLUS System Document v3.4.1

The ISCC PLUS System Document v3.4.1 is available on the ISCC webpage. The v3.4.1 includes minor updates aimed at providing further clarification of the standard. The changes from v3.4 to v3.4.1 are:

  • Clarification for multi-site credit transfer. For the following scopes it is not applicable: farm/plantation, FGP, PoO, CP, FPR (Chapter 9.3.1).
  • Clarification on the internal recycling requirement “The processed material is not used in the same production process which it originates from” is added (Chapter 5.5).
  • The paragraph “Under ISCC, it is obligatory for the certified sites to comply with the laws, ordinances, directives and ratified treaties of the country in which they are located/operate, in terms of waste disposal and treatment, air, water and soil emissions/pollutions. The processing/handling of ISCC raw material should not lead to any type of additional emissions, pollutions and/or health hazards.” has been added to highlight the requirements agreed in the Terms of Use by the system users (Chapter 8).
  • Typographical errors have been corrected.

The update is intended to assist all stakeholders in adapting to the revised ISCC PLUS System Documents and its requirements.

From 1 September 2023 to 6 March 2024, system users can be audited using both v3.3 and v3.4.1. After this period, only v3.4.1 will be valid.

3. ISCC PLUS V3.4.1 add-on EN 15343 is yet to be made available

ISCC PLUS is currently still in the evaluation phase to receive accreditation against EN 15343. We will inform you once the planned add-on EN 15343 is available for use under ISCC PLUS v3.4.1.

4. ISCC EU and PLUS Material List

The ISCC EU, PLUS and CORSIA Material Lists have been updated. Newly added as well as edited materials are marked in bold letters.

Kindly note that the material EP2 can no longer be certified under sugar beet residues.

Please find the updated Material Lists in the documents section of the ISCC website.

5. New Templates for Sustainability Declaration under ISCC PLUS

The ISCC PLUS template for the Sustainability Declaration (SD) has been updated to reflect the updated System Document and Material lists. The SD v3.5.1 now has an additional field for ‘Percentage of certified material in total quantity’.

The updated template is available in the in the client section of the ISCC website (login required).

6. New APS version (APS v4.5.0) release on 1 September 2023

In light of the updated requirements outlined in ISCC PLUS System Document v3.4.1 and the application of ISCC Fee Structure, valid from 1 September 2022, APS v4.5.0 will be launched in the ISCC CB section, accompanied by the publication of the new Audit Procedures on the ISCC website, scheduled for 1 September 2023.

Please note that the use of the new APS v4.5.0 as well as the updated Audit Procedures becomes mandatory on 15 September 2023. It can be used on a voluntary basis before that date. ISCC strongly recommends auditors to use APS v4.5.0 for all audits as of 1 September 2023 in order to verify the extended requirements of ISCC PLUS Document v3.4.1 and to account for the ISCC Fee Structure valid from 01 September 2022. Any audits that have been started on APS v4.4.0 should be completed in APS v4.4.0.

If the previous APS v4.4.0 is used for an audit between 1-14 September 2023, the certification body is obliged to deliver the respective amounts of outgoing material per scope declared as sustainable by the System User and as verified during the audit along with the certification documents.
